The Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Canada, the Consortium de Recherché et d’Innovation en Aérospatiale au Québec leading research project in high-strength aluminum

OTTAWA, November 26th, 2018 – Equispheres Inc. today announced it will be joining corporate partners such as MDA, Bombardier, Pratt and Whitney Canada, Bell Helicopter Textron, and academic partners such as McGill University, among others, for a research project called Additive Manufacturing of Aerospace Components – II.

This project, under the leadership of the Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Canada and the Consortium de Recherché et d’Innovation en Aérospatiale au Québec, will model the relationship between defects characteristics and failure, potentially develop geometric manufacturing guidelines to better design parts, and further refine the relationship between a part’s mechanical properties and a part’s location in the build.

The project will propose a new and more integrated part inspection methodology to continue the effort to include new lightweight materials into the aerospace industry. The project will also conduct research into the production of new high strength aluminum alloy compositions.

Metal powders are the foundation to new advanced manufacturing techniques that are transforming physical designs and supply chain logistics of high value, complex parts used in a variety of sectors, including aerospace, automotive, medical and military.

Other companies and organizations participating in the project also include Héroux-Devtek, Edmit Industries, Liburdi Automation, the Centre de Metallurgie de Quebec , Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal, and the National Research Council.
